Prophet’s Guidance on treating pain in general with Islamic Prayer formulas

Narrated in his Sahih that Uthman bin Abu Al-Aa's (ra) complained to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) from a pain in his body that he suffered, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

Place your hand on the painful area of your body & say Bismillah (In the Name of Allah), thrice. Then say seven times,

A'udhu billaahi wa qudratihi min sharri maa ajidu wa uhaadhiru

I seek refuge with Allah and with His Might and Power from the evil of what I am suffering from, and because of which I have become worry."

In the Sahih, it is narrated that Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) used to visit some of his family members (who were ill) and would touch them with his right hand, saying :

“O Allah, the Lord of mankind, Do away with the complaint and bring about the cure. You alone bring the cure, and there is no cure except Your cure, a cure that does not leave illnesses.”

Tirmizi narrated in his Sunan that Khalid (ra) once complained to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) that he does not sleep well at night, our beloved Prophet said :

"When you go to the bed, say, O Allah ! The Lord of seven heavens & whatever is under them, the Lord of the earth & whatever they carry, Lord of the devils & whoever they misguide, Be my Supporter against the evil of all of Your creations, preventing any of them to cause me any harm or injustice. Mighty indeed are those whom You Support, honorable indeed is Your praise, and there is no deity worthy of worship except You".

Also Tirmizi narrated that the Messenger of Allah used to teach his companions these words when they faced fear.

"I seek refuge with Allah's perfect words from His anger and torment, and from the evil of His slaves and the whisperings of the devils, I seek refuge with You, my Lord from their presence".

    For Anxiety and Sorrow

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maid servant, my forelock is in your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask you by every name belonging to you which You named Yourself with, or revealed in Your book, or You have taught to any of Your creation or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with you, that you make the Quran the life of my heart and the light of my breast and the departure of my sorrow and a release in my anxiety.

O Allah, I take refugee in you from anxiety and sorrow in weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and being overpowered by men.

    For one in Distress

None has the right to be worshipped except Allah forbearing. None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, Lord of the magnificent throne. None has the right to be worshiped except Allah Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth, and Lord of the Noble throne.

O Allah it is your mercy that I hope for, so do not leave me in charge of my affairs for even a blind of an eye and rectify for me all of my affairs. None has the right to be worshipped except You.

None has the right to be worshipped except You. How perfect You are, verily I was among the wrong-doers.

Allah Allah is my Lord, I do not associate anything with Him.

    When Visiting the Sick

Never mind, may it (the sickness) be a purification, if Allah wills.

I ask Allah the Supreme, Lord of the magnificent throne to cure you.
